Mike Westbrook's Village Band 10th November 2006

Featuring Mike Westbrook (euphonium), Kate Westbrook (voice/tenor horn), Gary Bayley (tenor saxophone), Stan Willis (alto saxophone), Mike Brewer (trumpet) and Sam Smith (trombone). Four leading Devonian musicians join the internationally acclaimed composer and performers Mike and Kate Westbrook to form the Village Band Project. The Waxeywork Show is an original piece by Mike Westbrook for voice and acoustic brass, specially created for the group, featuring lyrics and vocals by Kate Westbrook. In All that Jazz, the band performs Mike Westbrook's arrangements of classic jazz instrumentals, songs, blues and rags. The programme includes Scott Joplin, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus and many more.
